Registration Fee Deadline- December 11th 2020

Posted by Sami Ciotka at Dec 12, 2020 4:55PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Registration Fees – So today’s deadline of paying registration fees is here and very few people have paid. We need people to pay their registration fees this year as we must replace our computerized bingo system ASAP, and it will be costing us $10 000 to do so. We also lost considerable bingo revenue this summer due to COVID-19 shutting our bingo down and we have ordered new hockey socks at a cost of $2500.
We will now be implementing a NO PLAY date of Jan 4th. If you have not paid registration fees by Jan 4th your child will not be allowed on the ice for games or practices until fees are paid. We understand that we are approaching Christmas and money could be tight at this time. There are programs out there to help financially with hockey registrations. If you cannot pay by Jan 4th please let any BRMHA Executive member know so we can work together to come up with a payment date that works for you. All information will be kept confidential.
Payments can be made by e-transfer (blindriverminorhockey@gmail.com), cheque or cash.
Thank you for your understanding.

COVID 19 Protocol

Posted by Sami Ciotka at Oct 12, 2020 1:46PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Hello Hockey Parents: As mentioned in an earlier post, here are the COVID protocols that must be followed during practices and games:
- EVERYONE must wear a mask in the arena;
- Sanitize hands upon entry;
- Please arrive no sooner than 20 minutes before your scheduled time;
- You must sign in with arena staff. There will be a BRMHA volunteer helping with this. We are looking for volunteers;
- For U7 (Timbits) and U9 (Novice), please come fully dressed. To put skates on, please use the area next to the visitor’s bench. PLEASE SOCIALLY DISTANCE YOURSELVES.
- for all other age groups there will be dressing rooms available. If you child needs assistance to get dressed, the player must dress at home or must exit the dressing room to ask a PARENT/GUARDIAN for assistance. Parents/Guardians are not to enter dressing rooms.
-Players must wear masks while in dressing rooms and socially distance;
-Players must remain in dressing rooms until their coach says it time to go on the ice;
- While watching, please socially distance, and wear your mask. We are only permitted 50 spectators at a time in the arena. Therefore we may ask you to wait outside until someone leaves;
- Players are to bring their own water bottles with their name on it, and no sharing of bottles allowed;
-Players have 15 minutes after to practice to change and exit the arena.
- There will be no Lost and Found. All items left behind will be discarded immediately.
These protocols may change as necessary as the season progresses. Please be patient as we work through this together. Remember, these protocols are in place to keep your favourite players healthy and safe.
Thank you and remember it is hockey, it is supposed to be fun!

Practices Start Next Week!

Posted by Sami Ciotka at Oct 8, 2020 11:47AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Hello Hockey Parents: We are very happy to say that we will be starting practices next week. To say hockey will look different this year is an understatement.
The first practices will be Wednesday night (Oct 14th) as follows:
6-6:50 U7 (Timbits)
7-7:50 U11 (Atom)
8-8:50 U13 (Peewee)
9-9:50 U18 (Midget)
The following week, starting Oct 19th, there will also be practices on Monday night as follows:
6-6:50 U9 (Novice)
7-7:50 U11 (Atom)
8-8:50 U13 (Peewee)
9-9:50 U15 (Bantam)
These Monday and Wednesday practice times will be followed until we get a clear count on registrations. Please be patient with us as we adjust to the new COVID requirements. We may have to shift some practice times.
As you can see there is more than one practice time for some age groups because there is more than one team in those age groups. For now however, please attend both practices until we determine which players will be on which team. We are required to balance the skill level between teams. This may mean we will need to shuffle kids around more than once.
There are some other significant rule changes for all levels, such as 3 on 3 format, only 10 players + 1 goalie per team, no penalties but penalty shots instead, no intentional body contact of any kind, no face offs, and a few other interesting rules. Please click this link for a full list of rules: https://mcusercontent.com/b5f1f5a3071ac45be51962aac/files/271e8f08-5dc8-478b-9dfc-7b5737ba7970/NOHA_3_vs_3_and_4_vs_4_Game_Rules.pdf
We are also working with the town on new protocols while at the arena. This could include dressing your child at home, arriving only at a certain time before the practice/game, leaving within a certain time after, who can enter dressing rooms, etc. Once the protocols are finalized we will post them here and on our website. Please respect the protocols as we are trying to keep everyone safe while letting our kids enjoy hockey.
All age divisions will be playing in the CAHL. We are working with the other CAHL associations to begin games mid-November. At this point we do not know how many games will be played each weekend, how long the season will last, or when playoffs will begin.
Also note, if you were late registering your child, we will do our best to find a spot for your favourite player. However please note that we are being mandated to keep league numbers to 50 or less. That means between Blind River, Thessalon, Elliot Lake, and the North Channel we can only have 50 players in any given age division. Unfortunately we cannot just simply accept as many as we want, like we’ve done in the past. We are working hard to come up with options to ensure every child gets to play.
Thank you and we appreciate your support and understanding while we move forward in this new era of hockey.
Good luck to everyone who plays and remember to have fun!
